Bluebird Gap Farm

Bluebird Gap Farm

Sometimes life requires a change of scenery. One doesn’t have to travel far (’cause Lord knows traveling too far can get ugly with kids and takes a certain mental preparedness…or moment of insanity). My favorite and most energized mother in law, a.k.a. “Grandma”, had the fun idea of heading over the bridges and through the tunnels to Hampton. A mere thirty minutes away. She packed us PBJs and grapes while I packed kids and all that goes with four critters between the ages of 0-6 (cousin Savannah was with us too! yay!) to Bluebird Gap Farm.

Bluebird Gap Farm is free and open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, 9am-5pm. Surprisingly, I had never heard of this place and tried to inform Grandma that “blueberry” picking wasn’t until later in the month. She sweetly encouraged I Google it. Lo and behold a gorgeous, very beautifully maintained farm is smack dab in the middle of the city of Hampton. Who knew?! Not me.

There was a fun grouping of animals: chickens, cows, deer, emu, …wait an emu? Yep, not just your usual run of the mill farm animals. Bluebird Gap farm likes to keep a few surprises up their sleeve. Including a red Mustang on display (the car, not the horse…although they did have horses too).

I wouldn’t go as far to say it was Busch Gardens or Disney World excitement, but it sure beat the price – again I say, this place was F-R-E-E. A bright red, well-kept play ground rounded out the experience. Bathrooms were nearby for cleanup of our own animals – I mean children. There were even covered areas to picnic. We chose to lay out a blanket where we met up with cousins Eli and Ethan who were accompanied by Aunt Angela.

Soon we were tuckered out by the heat. The guest magician on stage did nothing to entice our brood. We circled trees with strollers to encourage fussy babies to sleep, pushed toddlers on swings one more time higher and higher! and then decided to pack it up for home. It was a sunny laid-back day. An adventure well worth the travel. Bluebird Gap Farm – an easy going slice of the country right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. Four stars or hooves…

My favorite part? This dude. He felt like I did by the end of the sweltering day – glad to come, glad to go. Time to hit the hay.

  3. You go Grandma Mack! Four stars indeed!
Everyone looked so cute and I know wonderful memories were made. Great job everyone 🙂

  4. I’m so glad you had a great time here at the farm. A lot of hard work goes in to keeping the farm in top shape. We are constantly trying to make improvements and your kind review of the farm assures us that we are heading in the right direction. Thanks for the great review! Hope to see you again soon!

    1. Wow! If I knew the Farm would be commenting I would have changed out of my pjs for this post! 🙂

It truly was a lovely farm. Obvious the work put in keeps it maintained beautifully – down to the brightly painted sidewalk cracks/uneven paths. Safety first for wee ones!

I would have said more but adventures such as these keep my vision at a three foot level and often don’t allow for a thorough exploration. Upside, gives us more to experience next time!
Fill me in though, the “dude” is a goat or a ram? Male or female?

  5. The “dude” is a male goat…and one of my favorites. His name is “Zipper”. He is a wether and stays in the goat yard year round. We have a larger “in tact” male named “Danny” that stays with the rest of the livestock for most of the year. We only put Danny in the goat yard during breeding season.
