Stormy Seas

Stormy Seas

Imagine a quest across the widest of oceans. The seas are raging. The waves are building in height with every waking hour causing the adventurers aboard to question their decision to ever embark on such a journey. The rains pelt down in sheets of cold, drenching, darkness while the boat, precariously perched high above the next swell, drives deeply down between the growling waves.

The bright moon greedily pulls the waves in one direction while the boat attempts, with all its might, to drive towards a shore miles and miles away. By faith, by sheer determination of spirit, we know we will get there. We know we will survive. But one soon admits, as the hours, days, and weeks pass that … oh, wait, I’m pregnant, that’s why I feel like I’m on a ship sailing in constant and ever impending doom of seasickness and green-gilled grossness.

I am grateful. All reports and studies show that this pregnancy is well on its way to a healthy kid. It is matching the saying that “no two pregnancies are alike” in its unpredictable effects. I hadn’t experienced waking up nauseous before and then the next day feeling perfectly fine. I am grateful for everyday of it… well minus the green moments.

In the meantime we have stayed busy with Mother’s Day fun (check out my awesome present! – SHOES!)

where we dedicated our dear Aurora to God in front of the church. I frankly get a little shy about such public activities, but still see the importance of doing it.

In the Bible, Hannah, who wanted a baby so badly, was given Samuel. He became a great judge and prophet of Israel, later anointing two of the most famous Kings of Israel – Saul and David. Hannah promised God this:

“O LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life…” 1 Samuel 1:11 (NIV)

When God answered Hannah’s prayer by giving her a son, she remembered her vow:

“As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD. I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.” And he worshiped the LORD there. 1 Samuel 1:26-28 (NIV)

So as the storms rage, I will try to continue to remember the blessing I have been given and have faith that the sun will soon come out, i.e. the second trimester will begin in a few short weeks, and all will be calm again.

Off to prepare for a 3rd birthday party for a sweet little redhead. We have a cake to make and it involves a green horse. Need I say more? This is going to be epic.
