Tracking December
Three weeks in to combat nursery care we are at 160 feedings and no less than 100 diaper changes. Round three of parenting with our Cody has gone swimmingly! (just don’t look around my house, its a war zone).
Many thanks to the tasty meals friends and family bestowed upon our weary selves. Ryder and Rory especially appreciate the gestures as they are quickly learning meals are much slower these days to appear before them. Let’s just say Ryder has quickly learned that the step stool can reach another shelf of the pantry and he now knows how to open rice cakes, Ritz crackers, and even the refrigerator door! Hello cheese sticks! Hello apples! A whole new world of accessibility! Now if I can entice him to clean the kitchen this kid will be off and married before I know it!
Gone are the days of having to learn how to function on an hour and a half bunk time between feedings or enduring screaming chow-time cries before we can make it home. No, ladies and gentlemen, we are well trained in infant offense and defense. Rory and Ryder have taken to Cody with ease as well. They drown out his 2am cries by turning their audio books back on. Pat his head when he needs cuddles. And even treat him like the sibling he is – Cody was crying in the car and Rory, our passionate song writer, made up another new “song”: “meow! Meow! There’s a cat! Cat! CAT! Meow!” (If you’ve ever heard a newborn wail, it does sound much like a cat.Truth hurts, siblings aren’t there to sugar coat life.)
Aside from a new brother for the holidays R&R found excitement in cookie time, movies, and Christmas celebrations! Rory sang with abandonment during the Christmas Eve service while Ryder was focused to hold the candle.
Christmas morning brought favorite things under the tree. The top pick being jelly beans. Yes, the cheapest gift was the most enjoyed. My dad already anticipated this fact about kids and bought the grand kids a giant box for Christmas…it folded into a colorable pirate ship! But seriously, it was just a box! It kept them entertained for a good hour!
And Christmas night concluded with the magical wonders of Grandma! In Ryder’s words, “You mean I just saw Papa and Oma and now I get to see Grandpa and GRANDMA! This is the best Christmas EVER!” (oddly, this has happened every Christmas he has been around, apparently the magic of Christmas wasn’t lost on Ryder this year, he had a blast!).
A new year is coming and I am sure many exciting adventures with it! Happy New Year!

What a wonderful Christmas season it was! We celebrated 1st Christmas with Ben, Sonya and Elliot before they sojourned to NJ, then Christmas Eve at aunt Nancy and uncle Gary’s to enjoy our extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, and then Christmas Eve services plus Christmas morning. So much to be thankful for! Oma got to sing in the Messiah and Cody came after the dress rehearsal! Good timing buddy! Thank you Jesus for making our lives full of hope and promise.
Lovely post Charity!
I do so enjoy these little peeks into your everyday – and holiday – life! Hard to think now that I did all that with four little ones! Such a happy time – then and now.
Happy New Year to you all! We have been blessed.
Hope you had a great Christmas! Did I hear you had snow? 🙂
My hats off to you with four all those years!
Love to see all the photos of the kids…all of our Christmas photos are of DOGS!! :O) Looking forward to someday reliving the Christmases of yore, complete with “the pyramid” and “the shortest-to-tallest police lineup”…can’t wait to plan our next visit!
Maybe once the mini Macks are all walking we can send you a pyramid pic 🙂
