Turkey Trouble

Turkey Trouble

Thanksgiving books range from the serious to the silly and often times the boring. We recently read two fantastically fun turkey books that will not disappoint any critters looking to get in the festive mood of the Thanksgiving holiday.

10 Fat Turkeys by Tony Johnston, Illustrated by Rich Deas
ISBN: 9780545164696

This little board book is quick, catchy, and lots of counting fun. A decreasing wackiness of turkeys goofing off on a fence, the illustrations are colorful and the beat is rhythmic.

“8 ‘Looky!’ calls a foofy turkey,
flapping to blue heaven.
GOBBLE GOBBLE WIBBLE WOBBLE
Oofsy! There are…”

We highly recommend silly voices when the turkeys talk and even an encore reading at super silly speed!

A Plump and Perky Turkey, by Teresa Bateman, Illustrated by Jeff Shelly
ISBN 9781417653607

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you couldn’t get a hold of a turkey for thanksgiving dinner? Well the town of Squawk Valley experienced just that! They are a crafty townsfolk however and decided to host an art fair inspired by the plump and perky fowl.

” A plump and perky turkey’s what we need,” they all agreed.
“But finding turkeys nowadays is very hard indeed.
The birds have gotten smarter,
and they all seem quite aware
that it’s best to disappear when autumn leaves are in the air.”

The illustrations are busy and totally turkey tremendousness. The story is creatively original and unusually unpredictable. Catch this book fast before it runs off your table!
