Stupendous Storm
Doughnuts. 50 to be exact. The munchkin type. Chocolate, glazed, cinnamon, and powdered. Three sippy-cups filled with milk. The sweet smell of sunscreen kissing our skin. We were half naked (weird). We were beyond thrilled (yahoo!). We were determine (crazed?). It was 70 degrees in the middle of June (unheard of).
Hello Ocean.
Sometimes I wonder why I even try to plan ahead. Cody hid at Oma’s house while Savannah, Rory, Ryder, and me went to the beach last Friday. It was 100 degrees the day before, so one would think I planned this perfectly to hit a 70 degree and sunny…wait…not so fast.
Rainy day. Nowhere on the radar was there a drop of rain. Yet here I was huddled in the front seat of my car after lugging three large children and their stuff to the ocean’s edge only to have the winds pelt sandย on soft shins and the rains pour down from above. We decided to make the best of it.
Break out the munchkins!
‘Cause what’s better than learning how windshield wipers work. How silly it is when the automated voice command phone system responds, “Pardon?” when you babble weird sentences at it. Or how harassing family with endless texts and pictures showing them how much “fun” we are having at the beach can be.
We gave up waiting for the storm to pass and they played in the rain regardless. Thoughts of the beaches of Normandy in WWII came to mind as they army crawled from dune to dune yelling “I live!”.
My fear of being caught by the life guard was realized as an overly tanned dude in a windbreaker drove up. Revealing only the aviator glasses through the peep of his hood, he laughed as he is placed the “Water is Dangerous” flag up. He saw us “joyously” playing between the sanctuary of the dunes (and thankfully not getting mad as the kids continue to dig near the “stay off dunes” sign) and yelled “there’s dedication!”. You betcha.
We had fun regardless of the storm. They laughed. They fought as any close cousins will do. We lugged junk. We ate doughnuts. We covered ourselves in sand and rain water. Mission beach day accomplished.

Well done! Great fortitude and perseverance! So glad I had the cushy job of the sweet baby at home…
I got to say I’m with you on that one. I’m not good cold and wet!
I second that! You are one fearless mama, Charity. Your children are so blessed! Oh to have that energy still… I’m afraid you’d have found me with Oma. ๐ Love your family!
I, too, would have to ditto the 2 grandmas and say the same.
I would want to be home w/cuddly Cody instead of 70 degree
coldness, wind and wet. I would rather be changing, feeding
and eating his neck up. Ha!
It’s time to hand the baton to the next generation of parental adventurers! Though I still bum a ride on a lot of the adventures ๐
Can’t help but agree with all the above. No one but you, Charity! My admiration!
Love it! those are the days they remember!!
You are one good Momma and aunt!! Love ya girl!
