Tracking October
There is a turkey in the oven. A 13lb wonder that is veiled with a cheese cloth, soaked every 30 minutes with butter and clementine citrus juices. It’s my first turkey I’ve ever baked and so far so easy. Two-ish hours to go to really determine my fate as a successful turkey roaster.
Much like that turkey I have a 13lb wonder…wait, okay, Cody is not actually 13lbs in my belly at this point. Likely more at 5lb or slightly over. But the size of my belly, the weight I feel in my hips makes me feel much like this turkey is almost cooked! Five weeks or less and this cute little bird is done…And so am I!
October was a great month and we are already ten days into November (can you believe it?!). We got to go on a relaxing vacation a few weeks ago in the Virginia mountains where Ryder and Rory adventured with Oma, Papa, Uncle Charlie, Aunt Michal, Cousin Savannah, and Daddy. Cody and I were there too, waddling close behind. We sampled homemade jams and jellies, old fashion candy, and kicked tail in Scrabble most nights (sorry Charlie…well, not really. Sorry “Qi” played twice simultaneously isn’t allowed…I am just fine winning on technicalities! Bruu haha!).
Rory loved catching snow flurries in her mittens while Ryder and Chris climbed huge fallen trees in the forest.
Pumpkin patches with Papa and trampling through wet leaves in the forest with Oma.
Raking leaves to alleviate an upside-down baby from my hips while a big sister oversees the fun.
Cody and I also had a blast hanging out with wonderful friends who showered us with gifts at a beautifully hosted tea party (thank you Jenny Sue!). Ryder and Rory weren’t left out, their dear “Grandma Rita” sent them new plates and silverware equipped with the most satisfying dessert to test out the plates with: M&Ms! (A funny thing to watch with an 18 month old and a fork).
Life is good. Holidays are fast approaching. Roasting marshmallows and hunkering down to read good books with ones we love most are high on the priority list these days.
We wish you all happy holidays! That you find the time to roast turkeys and trample through the woods (or maybe trample through the woods to find a turkey to roast? It could happen). I have a turkey to baste. Until next time!

What great memories are being made! And documented as well. Keep up the good work, they are great kids.
Thanks Oma!
Charity! These are fabulous pictures! Looks like lots of fun throughout the season! You’ve done a fabulous job of keeping everyone posted and up to date. Hey…I have a friend who is going to deliver on 12/12/12…pretty cool. Could be you, too. I’ve enjoyed hanging out with Ryder and Rory on Tuesdays for a couple of hours. We play outside on the playground, have snacks, and go for walks on warm enough days. On cold, rainy days we stay inside KEYS, looking for any open available space to play. You’ve done a fabulous job with the two of them. Bless you with your upcoming delivery! Welcome Cody! ~Holly
Thanks Holly! Ryder often says how much fun Tuesdays are because he gets to go to school…I know the inside scoop though, he gets to play on a play ground with undivided attention from you 🙂 Thanks for being his Tuesday afternoon highlight!
12/12/12 sounds cool! Although church would be upset because Cody is supposed to be baby Jesus on the 7th and 8th. We shall see if he complies or stays comfy until he is due a week later.
What a wonderful way to welcome the coming winter! Sounds like a great time for all!
We will be seeing you soon! Anxious!
Hey!! Although I think 13 lbs qualifies as a large chicken vs a turkey…;)…I will be glad to sample and give you my expert thoughts!! Loved the pix…although I’m concerned that your boy may treat Ryder like a softball and drop him…jk…ox
Ha! Okay yes, 13lb isn’t a huge bird. I was going easy my first time around and frankly wasn’t looking to break the bank if I wasn’t sure it would turn out well. It did! Really not a difficult task aside from having a pan big enough to put the thing in! I did find the butter/citrus recipe good, but oddly made the house smell more like a Ritz cracker than a roasting turkey. Not a bad smell, just not what I anticipated. I now wonder, how much butter is in a Ritz cracker?
Love the first picture! Rory looks like a scientist already!! Great memories and of course the pictures are fantastic
I kinda want Rory’s wardobe….
Happy Holidays friend. Miss ya!
